Active Power Claims Growth In Orders

Austin-based Active Power, which manufactures flywheel-based backup power systems, claimed today that it has seen orders in its OEM channel triple in the first half of the year. According to the firm, the sales volume from its OEM partnership with Caterpillar tripled to 83 flywheels in the first half of this year, versus only 28 orders in the first half of 2009. The firm did not say what dollar volume those orders represent, but said the boost in orders is a 200 percent increase. Active Power attributed the boost in orders to "renewed interest" from Caterpillar on marketing its UPS products, and also a restructuring of its sales channel at the end of 2009.
