Smooth-Stone Gets $48M For Low-Power Data Centers
Austin-based Smooth-Stone, a developer of semiconductors targeted at the data center and server market, announced today that it has raised $48M in a funding round. The funding came from ARM, Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC), Battery Ventures, Flybridge Capital Partners, Highland Capital Partners and Texas Instruments Inc. Smooth-Stone, which is headed by Barry Evans, said it is looking to bring low-power, mobile phone technology to the server and data center market, with the goal of reducing energy consumption and density in the data center. As part of the funding, the company said that representatives from Battery Ventures, Flybridge Capital Partners and Highland Capital Partners, and ATIC have all added representatives to its board.
