Dell Expands In China

Round Rock-based Dell announced this morning that it will build a manufacturing and customer support center in Chengdu, China, as part of a plan to invest $100 billion in China over the next ten years. According to Dell, the new center will help develop China's inner-western region for trade and commerce. Dell said that China is second only to the U.S. in revenue, and that it is estimating demand in western China to grow at a 21 percent annual rate through 2014. Dell said the new center is expected to be operatoinal in 2011, and may employ over 3,000 over time. Dell already has over 6,000 employees in China. The company said it is also opening up an additional office at its center in Xiamen, hiring up to 500 team members later this year.
