Gowalla Links With NASA
Austin-based Gowalla latest partnership: NASA. According to NASA, it has partnered with Gowalla to provide virtual items to visitors who "check-in" to NASA-related venues, including handing out virtual "moon rocks", a NASA patch, a spacesuit, and a space shuttle. NASA said the partnership will award users who "check-in" to museums and other locations with moon rocks with their own virtual moon rock, with additional prizes for people who check into multiple locations. NASA said that the partnership is a "creative way" to reach out and share information about the space agency. In addition to the check-ins, NASA and Gowalla said that an account for astronaut Mike Massimino and the agency's primary Twitter account will also drop virtual items for users to find and collect throughout the nation. The virtual NASA items can be found at NASA visitor centers, agency-related locations, parks, science centers, museums, and others linked with NASA.
