Samsung Completes Ramp Of Austin Fab
Samsung Austin Semiconductor, the semiconductor fab plant owned by Samsung, said today that it has completed the establishment and ramp to volume of its 300mm, automated fabrication line in Austin. The firm said the fab--its only outside of Korea--has a capacity of 40,000 wafer starts per month, reaching that production level in October. Samsung said it now has more than 2,400 employees in Austin, and invested more than $9 billion in those facilities. Samsung's Austin plan is used to manufacture 45 nanometer node semiconductors. The company started clean room construction of the facility in August of last year.
