Samsung Ramps Austin Expansion Effort
Samsung Austin Semiconductor, the semiconductor arm of Samsung which has a site in Austin, said it is ramping up its efforts to invest $4 billion in its Austin site. The company said it is on schedule for production of mobile application processors at the location in the second half of 2013. Samsung said that so far, it has hired around 200 engineers at the Samsung Austin Research Center for design and development of technologies for its mobile application processor. Samsung says it currently employes 2,500 direc temployees in Austin, and indirectly employs over 2,500 contract employees. Samsung announced in August that it would be spending between $3B and $4B in its Austin plant.
