Texas Companies Raise $306.2M In Venture Capital In Q4
Companies in Texas raised $306.2M in venture capital in Q4 of 2011, according to the latest numbers from the PricewaterhouseCoopers/National Venture Capital Association MoneyTree report. The report is based on data from Thomson Reuters. The funding is above the $198.9M raised in Q4 of 2010, but less than the $600.8M raised in the state in Q3. The largest deal in Texas, and among the largest during the quarter nationally, was the $150M funding of Austin's WhaleShark Media, which represented just under half of the total venture capital invested in the state in Q4. WhaleShark is the operator of online coupon code and deal sites such as RetailMeNot.com. Nationally, $6.6 billion was invested in 844 deals in Q4, a 10 percent decrease in dollars and 11 percent decrease in deals from Q3.
