Dell: We're Not A PC Company Anymore

Michael Dell, CEO of Round Rock-based Dell has a message for customers--and stockholders--saying at an event in San Francisco Monday that Dell is "not really a PC company" anymore. The statement comes as the company has been looking to emphasize its wide range of businesses, which now include IT services, data storage, cloud hosting, and software. Dell had said earlier this month in its quarterly earnings that both services and storage were among its fastest growing areas, and appointed a President of its Software Group--the former CEO of Computer Associates--at the beginning of the month to further move the company beyond its PC roots. Michael Dell looks to be trying to emphasize the shift to both customers and stockholders, as PC shipments in the industry have seen lackluster growth.
