SwRI Gets NASA Contract

The Southwest Research Institute, the nonprofit research and development organization based in San Antonio, reported this week that it has been selected by NASA to develop a network of eight nanosatellites, to help predict extreme weather events on Earth. SwRI did not say how much that award was worth, but said the satellites will go to help measure the intensity of hurricanes. The Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) will be built with the help of Surrey Satellite Technology and the NASA Ames Research Center. SwRI says it has more than 3,000 employees, and has an annual research volume of more than $581M.
