SwRI Scores $1.5M DARPA Award
San Antonio-based research organization Southwest Research Institute has won a new, $1.5 million award from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the company has announced. According to SWRI, the $1.5 million, three year project focuses on developing novel technologies for depositing thin films. The technology is focused on deposition of thin films on military vehicles and other equipment, and use in such areas as rotor blades, infrared missile domes and photovoltaics. Current thin film deposition technology requires high temperatures which cannot be used on those kinds of applications.
