Dell Powers OpenStack Cloud Deployment
Round Rock-based Dell is supplying the equipment for a new, OpenStack cloud software deployment today, with web hosting and cloud services firm Media Temple. According to Dell, Media Temple is using the firm's mCloud Helix software, to offer up private cloud services. Media Temple is tapping the mCloud Helix Solution, which is a cloud appliance it developed in partnership with Morphlabs. Media Temple is using Dell's PowerEdge C6220 servers within its new private cloud service. OpenStack is the open cloud software spun out of Rackspace, which allows any ISP to offer up private and public clouds to their customers; the effort is an attempt to make cloud deployment more interchangeable between vendors, and avoid vendor lock-in. OpenStack competes against Amazon's Web Services, and is based on the Rackspace Cloud.
