Silicon Labs Debuts New TV Tuning Chips

Austin-based Silicon Labs has launched a new family of silicon TV tuners, the company said today. The tuners--which are used by TV and set-top box makers--are used to decode both analog and digital television signals. Silicon Labs said that the new Si21x7 chips are designed to enable the lowest bill of materials of any silicon TV tuner in production. Silicon Labs supplies its chips for analog/digital hybrid TVs, analog TVs, portable TVs, DVDs, Blu-ray records, and set top boxes; the firm said it has shipped more than 200 million silicon tuners to date.
