Skyonic Unveils Carbon Capture Plant Plans In San Antonio

Austin-based carbon capture firm Skyonic unveiled plans for its first, carbon capture plant in San Antonio this week, where it plans to install its technology at the Capitol Aggregates Cement Factory. Skyonic--which is backed by BlueCap Partners, Cenovus Energy, Energy Technology Ventures, and Toyo-Thai Corporation Public Company Limited--said its commercial-scale carbon capture plant will be used to selectively capture CO2, acid gases, and heavy metals from flue gas at the cement factory, and converting that into sodium bicarbonate, hydrochloric acid, and bleach, along with other byproducts. The company estimates it will capture 75,000 tons of CO2 and other pollutants from the plant. Skyonic said it has begun construction on the plant, but did not say when it expects to be operational.
