Dell Creates New $300M, Venture Capital Fund

Round Rock-based Dell is ramping up its venture capital investment efforts in a big way, saying Thursday that it has expanded its venture capital efforts with the new Dell Strategic Innovation Venture Fund, to $300M. According to Dell, the fund will allow it to invest in early-stage to growth-stage companies, across emerging technology areas such as storage, cloud computing, big data, next-generation data center, security and mobility. Dell said the new fund comes on top of its existing, Dell Fluid Data Storage Fund, a $60M investment fund it announced last year focused on the storage area. Dell said it will co-invest with venture capitalists and other strategic investors, and also act as a board advisor to its portfolio companies.
