Yellow Cab Austin Looks To Stave Off Internet Rivals With Mobile App Update
Austin cab service Yellow Cab Austin is looking to stave off the incursion of Internet-enabled, mobile rideshare services like Uber, Lyft, and Sidecar, with its own mobile app--Hail A Cab. According to Yellow Cab Austin, it just released the latest version of its mobile app, which it originally launched in July of 2012, offering up such features as tracking cabs in real time, scheduling pickups, hailing the nearest cab, and more. Those app features are a direct response to the popularity of similar mobile app features from its Internet competitors. Yellow Cab Austin's app--which it says was developed in conjunction with MTData--is part of a nationwide move by transportation and taxi companies to keep Internet services like Uber from eating into their business.
