OpenKey Aims To Unlock Hotel Rooms With Your Smartphone
Dallas-based OpenKey said yesterday that it has launched a new, free mobile application which allows keyless entry to hotel rooms via a smartphone. According to OpenKey, it has create an open source service which works with a variety of existing, guest room electronic locks, which lets hotel room owners issue electronic keys to rooms--no matter the hotel brand. The company said it is looking to offer a single, mobile application for multiple hotel brands, so that consumers will not have to individually download apps to open doors. OpenKey said that its technology is backed by HOFTEL, an association of hotel property investors representing thousands of hotel properties. OpenKey says its service works with existing RFID, NFC, and Bluetooth-based guest room electronic locks.
