Illumitex Finds $16M For LED Lighting

Austin-based LED lighting manufacturer Illumitex has raised $16M in a Series C1 funding round, according to the company, to help it expand into the grow light market. According to Illumitex, the new funding was led by WP Global Partners, and also included NEA, Morgan Creek Capital, Mousse Partners, Apex Venture Partners, Jimmy Treybig, Larry Abrams, DMWMDW Interests and Syngenta Ventures. Illumitex said that WP Global Partners is the world's leadeing maker of LED grow lights for horticultural applications. Illumitex is led by Chris Hammelef. Illumitex said that grow lights are being used to grow growing basil, spinach, kale and many other vegetables around the world--although most of the growth in grow lighting in recent years has come from the rise of medical and recreational marijuana growing.
