Trend Micro Buys HP TippingPoint For $300M
Dallas-based security software developer Trend Micro announced this morning that it has acquired Austin-based HP TippingPoint, which develops intrusion prevention systems, for approximately $300M. Trend Micro said the acquisition will help it create a new, Network Defense business unit. Trend Micro said it has been in a strategic partnership with TippingPoint since 2014. TippingPoint was originally started in Austin, and had been acquired by 3Com back in 2005, and eventually swallowed up by HP after HP acquired 3Com in 2010.
