Austin Technology Council Study: Austin Needs More Investors
What are some of the biggest issues facing Austin's growing technology industry? According to a new study released this morning by the Austin Technology Council and the Austin Chamber of Commerce, the biggest issue with the Central Texas technology industry is a funding source network which is "significantly" smaller that other markets. According to the study, that lack of capital is linked to lower total investment and average deal sizes for Central Texas technology and life sciences companies. The two groups tapped the Munday School of Business at St. Edward's University or the study, to gain a comprehensive view of the capital investment landscape here in Austin. In particular, the groups said the study shows that there is an urgent need to attract more late stage and mezzanine venture sources to the city, including private equity and investment banks. The groups have posted the full report online.
