Dell Rolls Out Extra Secure BIOS Protection
Round Rock-based PC maker Dell said that it has rolled out what it calls the most secure PCs in the industry, with a new feature which checks the BIOS of a PC against a reference image of that BIOS stored with Dell offsite. Dell also said it has added a new artificial intelligence and machine learning protection product it has sourced from Cylance. According to Dell, its newest BIOS verification function uses a cloud server to test the BIOS image on a PC, to verify that those computers have not been compromised. Malware that hacks into a PC's BIOS is notorious for being impossible to remove, and has even been used by government intelligence agencies to compromise machines.
