Six Flags Ramps Up Virtual Reality Coasters
Grand Prairie, Texas-based theme park operator Six Flags Entertainment says it is ramping up its use of virtual reality on its roller coasters, and is launching a new, interactive roller coaster experience it is calling Rage of the Gargoyles. The company--which tiptoed into the virtual reality space with a deal with Samsung Electronics earlier this year--says it will be rolling out the new "Rage of the Gargolyes" experience at eight new parks this fall as part of its partnership with Samsung Electronics America. Six Flags said response to its earlier, virtual reality experience has been "outstanding"; those VR headsets are currently in nine of its parks nationwide. Six Flags' and Samsung's VR experience uses the Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus, to immerse viewers in a 3D environment all while riding a roller coaster.
