NASA Selects Two Texas Firms For Mars Habitat Prototypes

NASA has selected two, Texas companies to help its develop prototypes and concepts for new, deep space habitats for its future missions to Mars, as part of a $65M award which included six U.S. companies. According to NASA, Boeing's Pasadena, Texas operations, as well as Nanoracks of Webster, Texas, are two of the six companies which will work on NASA's efforts to create habitats for astronauts on the Red Planet, and for other future deep space exploration. NASA says habitation systems provide a safe place for humans to live humans move beyond Earth on a journey to Mars. Those habitats are expected to let humans live and work independently, for months or years at a time, without cargo supply delivieries from Earth.
