Twyla Raises $19M For Art Sales Startup
Austin-based Twyla, a new startup which helps consumers discover and buy art, has raised $19M in a funding round, which came from GV, Redpoint Ventures, and IVP. The company said it has created a service which works with contemporary artists, which sells limited edition prints of art to art lovers, which are displayed at "showrooms" in such locations as South Congress Hotel in Austin, and cost between $1000 and $5000. The startup is led by co-founder Matt Randall, and also counts HomeAway co-founder and chairman Brian Sharples, as a co-founder and the Chairman of the Board of the company. Th company said that it has added GV's David Krane to its board as part of the funding; that board also includes Doug Woodham (Christie's) and Amar Lalvani (Standard Hotels International).
