Microsoft Aims At Oil And Gas With Halliburton Alliance

Software giant Microsoft is taking aim at the oil and gas industry in a new strategic alliance with Houston's Halliburton, the two announced this morning. According to the two, they will collaborate to "digitally transformer" the oil and gas industry. The two said they will use Microsoft technologies machine learning, augmented reality (AR), user interactions and Industrial Internet of Things, along with Microsoft's cloud offering, Azure, to such oil and gas areas as reservoir characterization, modeling and simulation, building domain-specific visualization for mixed reality, and more. The first move is making a Halliburton software product, DecisionSpace 365, available on Azure.
