Arlington Withdraws From Amazon HQ2 Effort: Not Urban Enough
The City of Arlington, Texas has withdrawn from efforts to become the next headquarters for Amazon, saying this week that it believes Amazon is looking for a "more advanced urban setting" for its second headquarters, despite all of the advantages that might be had from locating in the city, which is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Arlington said that, despite the withdrawal, the Globe Life Park--the site of its proposal--would make an ideal headquarters for a corporate headquarters the size of Amazon HQ2. The City of Arlington had danged around $921M worth of economic incentives to Amazon to sweeten the pot for selection as Amazon's HQ2.
