Spiceworks: Companies Still Stuck In Desktops, Desk Phones Era

Think we all live in the high tech future of smartphones and laptops at work? Apparently, not. Austin-based IT software developer Spiceworks said this morning that it has run a new survey, which found that people are still mostly using desktop computers and old fashioned desk phones at work. According to Spiceworks, it found that 68 percent of organizations report desktops are the primary computing device for employees, compared to only 29 percent using laptops and 1 percent using tablets as the primary device. The survey also found that 75 percent of employees are still using desk phones--rather than company-issued smartphones--at work, with merely 16 percent of people with those smartphones. To top off the results, Spiceworks also said that companies are still using fax machines, with 66 percent of organizations using the antiquated devices. Spiceworks detailed the slow adoption of technology by businesses in a post on its survey on Monday. The company said the survey was conducted in July of 2018, and included 1,372 respondents from organizations across North America and Europe; the company did not make any claims on the scientific validity of its survey.
