Uber Launches On-Demand Scooters In Austin

Uber said today that it has started offering up its on-demand, scooter rental service in Austin. Uber will be offering up free rides on its new scooter service starting today, an running through November 11th. Uber is competing against a number of other companies--including Lyft, Lime, and Bird--to bring on-demand scooter service across the nation. Uber is a fairly late entrant, having only launched its scooter so far in one other market, Santa Monica, California. Uber already has been offering up its JUMP bike service in Austin. As part of the launch, Uber said it is opening up a "Greenlight Hub" at 500 Calles Street, to distribute free helmets and provide more information about its scooter service.
