Texas Sees $280.8M In Venture Capital In Q1

Ernst & Young and Dow Jones VentureOne reported this morning that venture capital investments in Texas increased in the quarter to $280.8M in deals. The companies, which track the flow of venture capital activity in their quarterly reports, said that the total was a 17% increase over the first quarter in 2006, although there were seven fewer deals than last year. Nationwide, there was $6.96 billion in venture capital deals, with record-breaking healthcare investments and increased early-stage deal flow. The quarterly deal count was 584 deals, down by 31 deals from last year, but dollar numbers showed an icnreased of 8% over last year.
