Dell Aims to Get ‘Greenest’
Computer manufacturer Dell Inc. revealed Tuesday that it is launching a long-term, worldwide effort to become the "greenest technology company on Earth." As part of its new Zero Carbon Initiative, Dell said its employees will work with suppliers and customers to increase the energy efficiency of Dell products. The Round Rock, Texas-based company also said it is committed to reducing its carbon output by 15 percent by 2012, adding that it will extend its “Plant a Tree for Me” program to Europe. For £1 per notebook or £3 per desktop, Dell said its European customers can sponsor tree plantings that will offset the carbon dioxide their computers release into the atmosphere during their average three-year lifespan.
