AMD Cuts Ribbon on New Austin Campus

Computer chip manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices reported Monday that it has officially opened its new campus in Austin, Texas. AMD said the new facility was designed to complement the needs of the local environment and the company's employees. Toward that end, AMD explained, the design team drew up a plan that minimized site impact, protected water quality and employed sustainable design techniques. The new campus, AMD noted, comprises some 870,000 square-feet of structure and sits on 58 acres. Founded in Sunnyvale, Calif., in 1969, AMD first opened an Austin location in 1979. Today, Austin is home to AMD's largest non-manufacturing campus and employs more than 2,500 people. (Photo courtesy Eugene Hsu).
