RipCode Lands MySpace In Mobile Transcoding Deal

Dallas-based RipCode, a developer of video transcoding appliances, has landed a major win with online social networking site MySpace. According to MySpace, the social networking site has launched a beta of a new, mobile video service, which will allow its users to view videos uploaded and marked as favorites on the site via mobile phone. It will use RipCode's video transcoding products--which translate videos from any format to mobile optimized versions--to power the service. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. RipCode's technology is used to provide real-time transcoding, which allows MySpace to support multiple video formats used by different handsets. MySpace said the use of RipCode allows 100 percent of the video content on the site to be available via mobile devices, and makes it possible for the company to not store multiple formats of videos.
