Freescale Semiconductor, Fuji Electric Aim At Hybrid EVs

Austin-based Freescale Semiconductor and Fuji Electric Systems Co., Ltd. said this morning that the two are working on technology to increase the efficiency of hybrid electric vehicles. The two said they are working on insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) technology and products, which they say will contribute to increased efficiencies of electric vehicles. Financial details of the alliance were not disclosed. The two said the IGBT technology from Fuji is used in hybrid electric or electric vehicles to convert AC signals into high current, high voltages for turning electric motors.
