MetroPCS Merges With T-Mobile
Richardson-based wireless carrier MetroPCS and fellow carrier T-Mobile said today that they are in a merger, which will create a new, combined firm with $24.8B in revenues and 45.2 million subscribers.The firm said that MetroPCS shareholders will get $1.5 billion in cash and 26% ownership in the new, combined company. T-Mobile USA is owned by Deutsche Telekom, and run out of Bellevue, Washington. The firm said they will retain the T-Mobile name. The firms said the move will give it expanded scale, spectrum and financial resources to aggressively compete with the other national U.S. wireless carriers.
