Alaska Airlines Cut Off From Sabre, Forcing Delays

Highlighting the importance of the computer reservation systems run by Southlake, Texas-based Sabre Holdings to the airline industry, a telecom failure in Wisconsin has completely disrupted the operations of Alaska Airlines today, after that airline as completely cut off from Sabre's systems. Alaska Airlines reverted to manually, hand-writing tickets for passengers Monday, after a 7:30 a.m. PST cut to Sprint's telecom network in Wisconsin, which apparently cut off all of Alaska Airlines' ticket agents from the systems at Sabre, which are used to handle reservations, check-in, and for ticket purchases. Alaska Airlines reported it was working on the issue.
