uShip Raises $18M
Austin-based uShip, the online marketplace for shipping services and transportation, has raised $18M in a new funding round, the firm announced today. The funding came from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. According to the company, the new funds will go towards development, sales, and marketing of its platform. KPCB's Maritza Liaw joins the company's board as part of the funding. uShip, which is led by Matt Chasen, said it will use the funds for a new "PRO" platform for business shippers and freight brokers; for mobile development and applications; and global expansion. The company said it has now raised a total of $28M in funding. uShip reports its now has over 1.6 million shipping customers and 325,000 registered carriers in its marketplace. uShip might now be most well known for being used as the central part of A&E's Shipping Wars series.
