Dell Aims At Commercial Airline Operators With Airbus Deal
Round Rock-based Dell is hoping to put a Dell laptop in the cockpit of every Airbus airliner, with a new deal announced today with Airbus. According to Dell OEM Solutions, the arm of Dell which helps deliver Dell's computer to OEMs, its Latitude laptops are being used with the Airbus Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) product for the Airbus A320. An electronic "flight bag" lets pilots access flight documentation, manuals, flight maps, and other information on a computer, rather than cumbersome paper manuals. Dell said the deal initially covers the Airbus single-aisle aircraft, although it hopes to extend the deal to other aircraft types in the future. Financial details of the link between the companies was not announced.
