IBM Expanding In Austin
IBM is planning to announce the opening of a new software product design studio in Austin, according to emails the firm has been sending to the press. No details on the new studio have yet been announced, except that it is opening up a new, 24,000-square foot facility. IBM is one of the county's largest employers, via its research and development labs and other operations. IBM has also been a major acquirer of local companies--the firm acquired Dallas-based SoftLayer earlier this year, bought Austin-based StoredIQ in February, and in prior years had acquired such companies as Texas Memory Systems, CoreMetrics, and Lombardi Software.
