WP Engine Launches New Open Source Project Effort

Austin-based WP Engine, which develops content management platforms for Wordpress websites and applications, said Thursday that it has launched a brand new project incubator called WP Engine Labs. WP Engine said the new department will help contribute to the open source community, and be the "innovation wing" for its product suite. WP Engine explained that it will employ full time, open source contributors and developers at the labs to specifically deliver alpha prototypes of projects for WP Engine customers. The first project out of the lab is S3 Mirror, a project which allows automatic mirroring of hosted websites to Amazon's S3, for disaster recovery.
