Younicos Selected For Huge Battery Storage System In UK
Younicos, the developer of battery storage systems which has major operations in Austin, said today that it has been selected for what it says is one of the world's largest battery-based energy storage systems. Younicos said it is developing a 49 megawatt (MW) lithium-ion battery storage system in the United Kingdom, which is expected to be complete by winter of 2018. The system is being built for Centrica, a British energy and services company, at the site of the former Roosecote coal and gas-fired power stations in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, UK. Financial impact of the win was not announced. The new system will be used to smooth out short-term fluctuations in power supply and demand, which allows for better usage of clean energy power sources, according to the company.
