GameStop Launches Into Esports In Deal With Dallas Cowboys' Complexity Gaming
Grapevine, Texas-based videogame retailer GameStop has launched itself into the esports arena, saying this morning that it has opening up its very own, esports venue called the GameStop Performance Center. According to GameStop, the new center is part of an alliance with Complexity Gaming, the esports organization associated with the Dallas Cowboys. According to GameStop, the deal is the first in a lineup of strategic partnerships in the esports space. According to GameStop, it wants to become the "unofficial pop warner league of esports" and help provide "fun and unique" experiences for player development and to prepare the next generation of professional gamers. The new, 11,000 square foot GameStop Performance Center will include a public gaming area, enhanced gaming equipment, a video studio, plus a "merchandise wall". The location is based at the headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys. In addition to the link with professional esports team Complexity Gaming, which is owned by Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys and real estate investor John Goff, GameStop said it is linking up with Infinite Esports & Entertainment (Houston Outlaws, OpTic Gaming) and Envy Gaming (Team Envy and Dallas Fuel).
