uShip: Oversized Item Buyers Driven By Instagram, Social Media
Austin-based online shipping marketplace uShip says that the pressure to have an "Instagram-worthy" home and furniture--and social media pressure--is driving the move to ship large, oversize items to consumers' doors. According to uShip, it ran a study which found one in six (18 percent) of American who've purchased oversized items in the past year feel pressured to have "Instagram-worthy" decor, and around 15 percent feeling that others are judging their home decor and furniture. uShip said its study was conducted online with third-party research firm YouGov. Among other findings, uShip said it also is seeing an "Amazon Effect", where consumers are expecting fast, free delivery, even with those oversized items. uShip is led by CEO Kris Lamb, and now has 220 employees.
