Entorian Abandons Memory Manufacturing Business
Austin-based Entorian Technologies, which develops semiconductor packaging technology products, said Wednesday that it plans to close its manufacturing activities for its memory business in January. According to the firm, it will transfer its memory and stacking customers, and certain manufacturing assets to third parties, although it will continue to license its patent portfolio. Entorian said the move follows the acquisition of Augmentix and a transition away from commodity components into vertical computing segments. Entorian blamed the closure on "dramatic" price and profit erosion in the memory industry. Entorian's Augmentix subsidiary focuses on ruggidized Dell computers for the military, enterprise, and government market.
