Silicon Laboratories Buys SpectraLinear
Austin-based Silicon Laboratories announced this morning that it has acquired SpectraLinear, a developer of programmable clock ICs, in a deal worth approximately $40M. SpectraLinear's integrated circuits are used in consumer electronics and embedded electronics, and are a key component used in portable media players, digital cameras, and other electronics items. Silicon Laboratories said the acquisition would complement its existing timing line, and accelerate penetration into what it says is a $500M opportunity in high volume applications. SpectraLinear had 44 employees, who are joining Silicon Labs; the firm was based in Santa Clara, California.
