Rackspace Opens Up On Open Source Datacenter Plans

Rackspace Hosting, the provider of cloud and managed hosting services which is based in San Antonio, has opened up its details on how it plans to reach out into the open source data center market, saying Wednesday that it plans to support and partner with Open Compute suppliers in its efforts. Rackspace, which was the driving force behind the OpenStack cloud computing platform, said it is looking to support the companies and organizations that share its vision for the open cloud, and plans to purchase servers from Open Compute Project suppliers for its new data centers. The Open Compute Project is an industry group looking to design server, storage, and data center hardware specifically for scalable computing. The project was started by a team of Facebook engineers, which has been looking for a way to come up with open, scalable designs for its massive data centers.
