Uber Raises $361M From TPG, Others

Austin- and Fort Worth-based TPG Capital's David Bonderman has joined the board of Uber, after the firm joined with Google Ventures to invest a total of $361M in the smartphone ride service provider. Details of the funding were widely published Thursday. The deal had been in the works for the last month or so, with TPG's involvement uncovered lsat month. Uber's smartphone apps let users summon private drivers in signature black towncars -- and recently, both taxis or private drivers--and pay for and manage those transactions entirely on their phone.
