Uber Launches With UberX In San Antonio
Mobile phone driven ridesharing service Uber has launched itself into San Antonio, closely following competitive ridesharing service Lyft, the company announced Friday. Uber has launched in San Antonio initially through its uberX ridesharing service, the ridesharing service which lets anyone with a car hire themselves out for local rides, rather than its more well known Uber black car service. According to Uber, it will begin offering uberX rides for free in San Antonio. It's unclear how long those rides in San Antonio will be free. San Antonio police chief William McManus has sent a cease and desist letter to Lyft, saying that its drivers are not permitted to operate in the city.
