Freescale Targets The Kitchen With RF Cooking Technology
Austin-based semiconductor developer Freescale said this morning that it is targeting a new application for its solid state, radio frequency (RF) technology: cooking food in the kitchen. Freescale said it has launched an appliance concept, which uses its RF circuits to cook food, as an alternative to microwave and traditional ovens. Freescale its RF cooking technology can control where, when and how much heating energy is directed into food. The company said it is making the technology available to appliance OEMs, including appliances capable of cooking multiple dishes and items at the same time within the same appliance. The company is showing off the concept at the Freescale Technology Forum; the company did not say if it had OEMs yet who intend to use its technology, or when consumers might expect to see actual products based on the technology.
